How To Know If Your Water Heater Is On The Fritz

by | Nov 10, 2017 | Plumbing

Although your water heater is seldom seen, it is one of the most important items in your home. When things go wrong, it definitely makes its presence known!

Know the signs of a malfunctioning water heater so that you can act early. The earlier you catch a problem, the smaller and cheaper the repair job will be. Below is a list of signs that your water heater may be on the fritz.

Unable to Maintain Proper Temperature

Your heater should be able to bring the cold water flowing through your pipes to temperature, whenever you are ready for hot water. When your heater can no longer do this, there’s a problem. Some people may notice that although their water does eventually become hot, it takes much longer than before. This also means there’s a problem.

Luckily, these are usually simple jobs to fix. Your heater may only require a new part. However, if your appliance can’t provide any hot water at all, this could mean a more serious issue.

Noises Coming from the Heater

Spooky sounds coming from the basement is unquestionably scary. If those sounds are coming from your water heater, it may not be scary in and of itself, but it could mean heater failure is on the way. While there can be a number of reasons for a noisy water heater, two issues are the most common.

The first cause is a build up of hard water sediment banging against your heater. This is a simple cleaning job.

The second cause comes from your heater’s heating element flickering out, which is a bit more serious. If the heating element goes out completely, you won’t have hot water at all. So, don’t delay getting in getting that checked out!
